Principal’s Message
Spring 2012
We are entering the time in the school year where we start our “push” for the Ohio Achievement Assessments which will occur from April 23 – May 4. In grades 3 – 6, you will see packets coming home for students to practice different skills that they will need to do well on the assessments. Unfortunately, we did not receive grant funding for the LEADS program this year, so we are counting on parents to encourage children to complete the homework that is given to prepare them for the test.
March is a busy month at Hannan Trace Elementary. March 14this picture day. If you want pictures, be sure to send money and the form that day. March 27this a two hour late arrival. The doors will not open until 9:30. Finally, March 29this our parent teacher conferences which will be held from 3:15 – 6:15. Please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher. We look forward to talking with you that evening. We are putting together a Cookie Recipe Book for Right to Read Week. We are asking that each student bring a cookie recipe so that it can be included in the book. We are accepting recipes until the end of March. We will put the books together to have them ready by Right to Read Week in May.
In April, we will be working very hard to prepare for the Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA). From April 5th– 9th, we will take our Easter Break. We hope students have a nice break and come back ready to learn all they can before testing. Our OAA Spirit Week will be April 16th– 20th. This week will be filled with special days for students to focus on tips for doing well on the assessments. The week will end with a pep assembly to gear them up for the assessment. We hope to have them ready by April 23rdwhich is the first day for testing.
In May, we will be having the Gallia County Local Schools Academic Festival at theUniversityofRio Grande. This festival will be held on May 8th. Please come and see the projects that the students from Hannan Trace Elementary and all the schools in the county have put together. They have put a great deal of time and effort into these projects, and they would appreciate the support of the community. Right to Read Week will be from May 14 – May 18. We will have Family Fun Night on May 14th. That evening families will have the opportunity to see the Dome Theatre and storyteller Jim Flanagan. We hope you come and enjoy this evening with us. On May 16th, Susan Nicholas from WSAZ news will be here to read stories to students during the school day. We will wrap up the week with Field Day on May 18th. We look forward to seeing many of you visit during our Right to Read Week activities.
At Hannan Trace we are "Striving for Excellence" every day. If you would like to become involved in our CATS program we welcome you. You can contact me at 256-6468 or gl_ebostic@seovec.org.
