PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Community Members,

The 2011-2012 School Year atRiverValleyMiddle Schoolis nearing the midway point with January 20th, 2012 marking the end of the First Semester.

This has been an exciting year filled with great expectations. The Ohio Department of Education has rated RVMS an “Excellent with Distinction”. We were also considered as a “SchoolofPromise”. This is the third year that we have received such a distinctive honor and we are very proud of such an accomplishment.

As principal, I am very proud of the teachers, staff and most importantly the students for their dedication and hard work in achieving academic success. I would also like to thank the parents and members of the community for their support. In order to be successful it takes everyone.

We are in the process of preparing for the Ohio Achievement Assessments which will be given in late April and early May. The Computer Program,StudyIslandis a great way for students to prepare for the test. I strongly encourage your child to take advantage of this program.

We hope that you find the information found on our web sitehttp://www.gallialocal.org/to be helpful. Since the winter months are upon us, here are a few reminders to help you and your child with school.

  • In the event of bad weather or some other emergency, which necessitates the early dismissal or closing of schools, always listen to the local radio stationsWBYG-99.5 FM, WNTO 93.1 FM, WXBW 101.5 FM, WKEE 100.5.Also thetelevision stationWSAZ-TV Channel 3, WOWK-TV Channel 13, or WCHS-TV Channel 8.
  • School Closings are posted immediately to the Education Connection and the web sitewww.gallialocal.org.If the situation occurs during school day, the above listed stations will announce the closing with as much advance notice as possible.

IMPORTANT:Have a plan for your child (ren) in case of school being dismissed early. Make your child (ren)’s teachers aware of the information so they can remind the students. It is impossible to phone every household before buses leave the buildings. On days when we are experiencing adverse weather conditions, students who are not picked up by the bus and are transported by parents, must be picked up by parents at the end of the day.

Always make sure your child is dressed for winter recess and when being picked up at bus stops. (Warm jackets, gloves, hats, etc.) Again we hope the above information is helpful and if you have any questions feel free to call the school at 740-446-8399.

We gladlyWelcomeyou toRiverValleyMiddle School. If the school or I can be of assistance to you in any way as you help your child prepare for his/her future, or if you have questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to call or contact us. Thank you for your support and cooperation. At River Valley Middle we “Strive for Excellence” every day.
